Folic acid and vitamins in pregnancy

Prepared by the LekCheck team · Last reviewed: 2026-06-29 · How we create our content

When planning a pregnancy and during pregnancy, some vitamins and minerals are especially important. However, taking them must be agreed with the doctor managing the pregnancy — doses and combinations are individual. This article is general information only. Below you can compare products and prices by ingredient, but make the choice of a specific preparation and dose with medical consultation.

This guide was prepared by the LekCheck team and has not been reviewed by a doctor or pharmacist. This article is for general information only and is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Do not start, stop, or change any treatment without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Folic acid

Folic acid is usually discussed as early as when planning and in early pregnancy. The specific dose and duration are determined by the doctor according to the individual case.

Iron and vitamin D

Iron and vitamin D (cholecalciferol) are sometimes recommended during pregnancy, but only when needed and on the doctor's judgement — which is why monitoring and tests matter, not self-treatment.

When to consult

Consult the doctor managing the pregnancy before taking any supplements, as well as for nausea, severe fatigue, dizziness or other complaints. Do not exceed the doses recommended by the doctor and avoid preparations with a high intake of vitamin A without consultation.
