Skin care — active ingredients

Prepared by the LekCheck team · Last reviewed: 2026-06-27 · How we create our content

Skin-care products contain different active ingredients according to their purpose — hydration, anti-blemish, renewal or brightening. Below are the commonly sought ingredients; choose one to see products and prices. For skin conditions, stubborn acne or reactions, consult a dermatologist; try a new product on a small area first.

Hydration

Hyaluronic acid retains moisture in the skin and is widely used in hydrating serums and creams.

Blemishes and oily skin

Salicylic acid and niacinamide are often used for acne and oiliness / acne-like conditions.

Renewal and anti-ageing

Retinol, coenzyme Q10 and collagen are popular in products for skin renewal and maturity. Collagen is a commonly used cosmetic ingredient with a supporting effect for the skin. Retinol can increase sensitivity to the sun — use sun protection. Retinol is not recommended during pregnancy without medical advice.

Brightening and repair

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is used for brightening, and dexpanthenol for soothing and repairing irritated skin.

When to see a dermatologist

See a dermatologist for stubborn acne, rashes, changes in moles or reactions to a product. Changes in moles require prompt medical assessment. This information is general and does not replace professional advice.
