Abdominal cramps and colic

Prepared by the LekCheck team · Last reviewed: 2026-06-29 · How we create our content

Mild abdominal cramps and colic sometimes respond to antispasmodics and anti-gas remedies. However, abdominal pain can have many causes, some of which require medical assessment. Below are the commonly used ingredients; choose one to see products and prices. For severe or persistent pain, see a doctor.

This guide was prepared by the LekCheck team and has not been reviewed by a doctor or pharmacist. This article is for general information only and is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Do not start, stop, or change any treatment without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

Antispasmodics

Drotaverine is used for smooth-muscle spasms (e.g. in abdominal colic). Follow the recommended dose and do not use it for a prolonged period without proper judgement.

Gas and bloating

When the cramps are accompanied by gas and bloating, simethicone is sometimes used, which reduces gas bubbles in the gut.

When to see a doctor

Seek urgent medical help for severe or sudden abdominal pain, pain in the lower right side, pain with fever, vomiting, blood in the stool or urine, a hard and tender abdomen, or if the pain does not subside. Suitability in children, pregnancy and chronic disease depends on the specific ingredient.
