Minor cuts and grazes can usually be treated at home: cleaning, disinfection and covering with a sterile dressing. Below are the basic steps and products; for more serious wounds, seek medical help.

Cleaning and disinfection
First clean the minor wound with water or saline, then use an antiseptic (e.g. chlorhexidine) to reduce the risk of infection before applying a dressing. For active bleeding, apply direct pressure with a clean dressing. Chlorhexidine must not get into the eyes.
Dressings
Cover the wound with a sterile dressing or plaster and change it as needed. See the available dressing materials in the relevant category.
Wound-healing products
To support skin repair in minor wounds, grazes and cracked skin, products with dexpanthenol (panthenol) — for example under the Bepanthen brand — are often used, as a cream or ointment. They maintain a moist environment and soothe the skin. Choose the dexpanthenol ingredient below to see the products and compare their prices. Healing speed depends on the type of wound and its care; for a slow-healing wound, consult a doctor.
Antiseptics for wounds
Various antiseptics are used to disinfect minor wounds — chlorhexidine, povidone-iodine (iodine solutions), as well as classic remedies such as fuchsine solution. The choice depends on the wound and its location; follow the directions and avoid contact with the eyes. Choose an active ingredient below to see available antiseptics and prices.
When to see a doctor
See a doctor for deep or large wounds, bleeding that will not stop, signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus, fever), inability to move, a foreign body in the wound, severe pain, wounds to the face/eyes, animal or human bites, or if your tetanus immunisation is not up to date.
